The Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) has announced its 3rd International Conference on “Arbitrating Indo-UK Commercial Disputes: Synergizing India-UK Arbitration Practices,” to be organized on Thursday, 5th June 2025, at the iconic Church House Westminster, London, during the London International Disputes Week 2025 (LIDW25).

This year's edition is particularly significant. The Conference will be inaugurated by the Justice B.R. Gavai, Chief Justice of India, and will have the special addresses by Mr. Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of Law & Justice, Government of India, and The Rt. Hon. Lord Briggs, Justice of the UK Supreme Court.

The event will convene by distinguished legal luminaries, eminent policymakers, and international arbitration experts from India and the UK to share perspectives on cross-border dispute resolution and to propagate deeper legal and institutional collaboration. The discussions are expected to set the tone for future cooperation and alignment between the two jurisdictions in light of the changing global arbitration landscape.

This edition of the ICA Conference comes at an essential time for India-UK relations, as the two nations move forward on their economic partnership through the recently concluded India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The Conference also follows the Bar Council of India's landmark notification dated 14th May 2025, enabling foreign lawyers and law firms to practice foreign law in India on a reciprocal basis.

These developments underscore the growing importance of a robust, harmonized, and reliable dispute resolution ecosystem to support cross-border trade and investment. As such, this Conference will serve as a timely platform to explore how institutional arbitration can serve as a catalyst for reinforcing legal certainty and business trust between India and the UK.

The Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA), established in 1965 by the Government of India and FICCI, is India's premier arbitral institution. Operating as an autonomous, non-profit body, the ICA promotes arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in commercial disputes. Over the past six decades, ICA has developed collaborative ties with more than 50 international arbitral institutions and leading industry chambers worldwide. Its longstanding commitment to excellence in dispute resolution has positioned it at the forefront of India's efforts to enhance its legal and securing health eco-system for foreign investment.
