ULC, Utkal University Announces 3rd Vishwanath Pasayat Memorial National Moot Court Competition 2025
The Moot Court Society of the University Law College (ULC), a constituent institution of Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, invites institutions to participate in The 3rd Vishwanath Pasayat Memorial National Moot Court Competition 2025.
This event is a tribute to the Late Shri Vishwanath Pasayat, a legal luminary revered for his commitment to justice for the underprivileged. The competition aims to inspire young legal minds to pursue advocacy with integrity and dedication, fostering a culture of excellence in advocacy, legal reasoning, and ethical conduct.
University Law College (ULC), Utkal University, Bhubaneswar: Established in 1975-76 and recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC), ULC is known as a center for legal education. It is a constituent institution of Utkal University.
Details of the Event
1. This is the 3rd edition of the national-level competition, which has been held at the state level since 2014. The event will provide a platform for students to hone their adjudicatory skills and engage with a moot problem.
2. All oral and written submissions, along with communications, must be in English.
3. The competition will be held for three days, from October 7th to October 9th, 2025, at the college premises.
Eligibility
The competition is open to students who are duly enrolled and pursuing a five-year integrated B.A. LL.B./B.B.A. LL.B./B.Sc. LL.B. course or a three-year LL.B. course at any university or institute recognized by the Bar Council of India and the UGC. Only one team is permitted to participate per institution.
Location
The competition will be held physically (offline) at the University Law College, Utkal University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.
Registration and Submission Procedure
Team Composition:
1. Each team must consist of a minimum of two and a maximum of three members.
2. A two-member team will have two orators and no researcher, while a three-member team will have two orators and one researcher.
Registration Process:
1. Teams must register by filling out an online registration form (Google Form).
2. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, with only the first 22 teams being eligible to participate.
Memorial Submission:
1. Teams are required to submit a soft copy of their memorials (both .docx and .pdf formats) for both the Plaintiff/Petitioner/Appellant and the Defendant/Respondent sides via Google Forms.
2. Five spiral-bound hard copies of the memorials for both sides must be submitted during on-site registration on October 7, 2025.
Important Dates and Deadlines
- Release of Moot Proposition: September 5, 2025 (Friday).
- Last Date to Seek Clarification: September 18, 2025 (Thursday).
- Registration Close & Team Code Allotment: September 22, 2025 (Monday).
- Release of Clarifications: September 22, 2025 (Monday).
- Last Date for Memorial Submission (Soft Copy): October 1, 2025 (Wednesday).
- Memorial Submission (Hard Copy): October 7, 2025 (Tuesday).
- Researcher's Test: October 7, 2025 (Tuesday).
- Preliminary Rounds & Quarter-Final Rounds: October 8, 2025 (Wednesday).
- Semi-Final Round & Final Round: October 9, 2025 (Thursday).
- Valedictory Ceremony: The awardees shall be awarded at the Commemoration of Late Vishwanath Pasayat on October 10, 2025 (Friday).
Fee Details
- The registration fee is Rs. 3,000/- (Three thousand rupees only) per team.
- This fee includes accommodation, food, and other facilities for the competition days.
- Accommodation will be provided for three nights (October 7-9), with free meals (3 dinners, 2 lunches, and 2 breakfasts).
- Winners and awardees will receive accommodation for four nights (October 7-10) with meals (4 dinners, 3 lunches, and 3 breakfasts).
Prizes and Awards
The following prizes will be awarded:
- Winners: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/-.
- Runners-Up: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000/-.
- Best Memorial: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-.
- Best Orator: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and a cash prize of Rs. 5,000/-.
- Best Researcher: Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and a cash prize of Rs. 5,000/-.
Additionally, every participating team will be awarded a 'Certificate of Participation'.
