Former CJI Sanjiv Khanna Joins Himachal Pradesh National Law University As Distinguished Professor

Justice Sanjiv Khanna, former Chief Justice of India, has joined Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, as a 'Distinguished' Professor. He has previously been associated with the University in the capacity of a Visitor.

Confirming the development to Live Law, HPNLU Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena said, "Yes, he has agreed to get associated with the University. We have received a letter of acceptance from him".

The University administration also shared a copy of the acceptance letter (dated July 12) with Live Law, which was addressed to the Vice Chancellor. The official request inviting Justice Khanna to assume the role was extended earlier in May.

Justice Khanna, who retired on May 13, 2025, served as the 51st Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India. He was elevated to the Supreme Court of India on 18th January, 2019.

In May this year, another Former Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud, joined the National Law University (NLU) Delhi as a 'Distinguished' Professor.
