2nd National Lok Adalat In Gujarat Disposes Off Over 11 Lakh Cases On Motor Accident Claims, Cheque Bouncing, Etc; Awards ₹ 1188 Cr

This year's Second National Lok Adalat was held on Saturday (July 12) which was organized under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), wherein over 11 Lakh pending cases including motor accident claims, cheque bouncing cases and matrimonial disputes with awards amounting to Rs. 1188.92 crores. 

A press release issued by Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA) stated that High Court Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal–who is the Patron-in-Chief of GSLSA–and Senior Most Judge of High Court Gujarat Justice A. Y. Kogje provided detailed guidance to all District Legal Service Authorities and Taluka Legal Service Committees to make sure that maximum parties get benefit of Lok Adalat.

As per the press release a total of 18,34,231 pending cases pertaining to motor accident compensation claims, civil suits, complaints regarding cheque dishonor, matrimonial and industrial disputes were taken up for settlement during the Lok Adalat.

Out of these, 11,69,083 cases were successfully disposed of, with awards amounting to Rs. 1188.92 crores. A notable aspect about this Lok Adalat was that 'Alternative Dispute Resolution – Pre Litigation Lok Adalat' has picked up momentum in the State wherein 7,49,486 pre-litigation cases were settled, with a total settlement of Rs. 112.37 crores.

In addition to this, 6,88,276 traffic e-challan cases were settled for amount of Rs. 35.74 crores and the Lok Adalat brought an end to 3,093 matrimonial disputes pending across the state of Gujarat.

"Total 4,19,597 Pending Cases in various courts of Gujarat were disposed off in Lok Adalat and Special Sitting and settlement amount of these cases is 1076.56 Crores".

"Under the able leadership of Hon'ble the Chief Justice of High Court of Gujarat all the District Courts has set up arrangement of Conciliation to settle 10 year old cases by which 844 number of 10 year old cases have been settled has been settled in this Lok Adalat. Best ever result in the Lok Adalat in the History of the Lok Adalat in Gujarat," the release states.
